Exhibit Project Update
In October of 2008 The Museum contracted with Zoma Communications from Mathews, NC for the comprehensive redesign of The Museum’s permanent exhibits.
The project was uncommon in its execution. Rather than being a traditional design/build project where the museum supplies content and the designer provides a finished product, the museum staff worked as local contractors for the fabrication and installation of the designed exhibit.
This process supported local businesses, hired local fabricators and in the end helped drive production costs dramatically down while building a renewed sense of community ownership in The Museum.
The “regional history” and “Main Street” exhibits have been completed and installed and design work has been completed for the “natural history” exhibits. We expect to install those exhibits in early 2009.
The Final phase of the project will be the “Greenwood” exhibits that detail the specific history of this county and what has made it unique. Design is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2009 with final installation planned by June 2010.
